India’s star cricketer Mohammed Siraj made a huge jump of eight places as the star pacer gathers the top spot in the men’s ODI ranking in the latest rank shared by Apex Cricket Council on September 20. Notably, ODI rank number 1 is a major boost for Team India heading to the ODI World Cup 2023. India’s right-arm pacer toppled Australia’s star pacer Josh Hazlewood to gather the first rank in the latest ranking.
The right-arm pacer has picked up a six-wicket haul after conceding only 21 balls in the Asia Cup 2023 Final, which allows him to get the highest ODI ranking. Notably, his magnificent spell bundled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs in 15 overs, which helped Rohit Sharma and Co. clinch the title of the Asia Cup 2023 on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer stood ninth in the rankings ahead of the tournament, but his wonderful spell against the home team of the Asia Cup 2023 allowed him to grab the highest spot. Notably, Mohammed Siraj not only claimed the highest rank but also registered his best bowling spells in the 50-over format. Following his stellar bowling spells, the 29-year-old was named Player of the Match for the final match of the Asia Cup 2023, where he opened up about his pragmatic skills as well as the tactical approach he uses to get wickets.
“Have been bowling well for a long time. Was missing the edges earlier. But found them today. The wicket was seaming earlier, but there was swing today. Thought that I would bowl fuller because of the swing. When there’s good bonding between fast bowlers, it’s helpful for the team. I was thinking it would be great if I could stop the boundary. My best spell. This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them,” Mohammed Siraj said during the post-match presentation.
