2023 was a year which was great for the sport of Tennis. The sport witnessed several memorable moments and most of them belonged to one man – Novak Djokovic. It was a year of the Serbian by a huge mile. The World Number 1 has created a new record for the greatest number of Grand Slam titles for a men’s singles player in the history of the sport.

Djokovic won the Australian Open, French Open, and the US Open to extend his Grand Slam count to 24, which is a new record. The only Grand Slam he lost in the year was against Carlos Alcaraz, in which he made it to the final and had an epic match. For India, the year was a mixed bag, as Sania Mirza announced her retirement from the sport.

On the other hand, Vijay Amritraj and Leander Paes became the first Asian players to be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame. The year gave rise to some new talents. Some of them had made their mark on the biggest stage. In Women’s singles, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka had brilliant years, along with Coco Gauff. It was also a year where not everything was good for the sport.

Rafael Nadal’s injury keeps him out of action

In the third round of the Australian Open 2023, Nadal sustained a hard injury. It meant that the star player was ruled out for the entire year. The Spaniard announced later in the year that 2024 would be his last year as a competitive Tennis player. Along with it, there was a big shock for the sport when it was revealed that Simona Halep was involved in doping.

Djokovic also created a record for the greatest number of weeks at the number 1 rankings in the history of the sport. The year also saw comebacks of some of the players like Caroline Wozniacki and Alexander Zverev. Many players like Andy Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas showed massive improvements in the year. The best match of the year was the Wimbledon final between Novak and Carlos. It was a great Grand Slam final.
