After losing the last fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets, Punjab Kings locked horns against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, in Mohali on Thursday, April 13. Titans won the match by six wickets and Mohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance.

In an interview with the IPL 2023’s official broadcaster, GT star Mohit Sharma discussed about his ideal comeback to the most significant event in domestic cricket. Ashish Nehra, the head coach of Gujarat, was also thanked by pacer Mohit Sharma for helping him plan his comeback this year. The experienced fast bowler, who last season also served as a net bowler for Gujarat Titans, was up for bid by Nehra’s GT side.

“There was excitement, but also nervousness about making a comeback after a few years. Have played domestic cricket in between. Last year I played domestically returning from back surgery. Not many people knew I played domestic. Got a call from Ashu Pa to stay with the team. (Mujhe laga ghar baithkey bhi kya karunga) I thought it would be better than staying at home (about being a net bowler for GT last year). Being a net bowler is not a bad thing. Gives you a lot of exposure. The environment at GT is brilliant,” Mohit was quoted as saying to Murali Karthik.

Mohit Sharma snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded only 18 runs in his spell. Sam Curran (22) and Jitesh Sharma (25) were his two vital wickets. He conceded only 18 runs in his four overs. Player of the Match honours were given to the senior GT pacer.

Mohit Sharma participated in just one game for the Delhi Capitals in 2020 before making a comeback in the IPL 2023. The 34-year-old has participated in 87 games in the richest T20 tournament in the globe. The Indian Premier League (IPL) fast bowler, who was released by India, has also played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings in the past.
