Mumbai cricketer dies after ball hits him hard on the head

A severe accident occurred during a cricket match at Major Dhadkar Maidan in Matunga on Monday, in which a player died after getting a blow on the head while playing. Notably, sources revealed that Jayesh Savla, 52 years old, participated in the Kutchi community cricket tournament for soldiers at the Dadar Union Athletic Club in Mumbai.

However, it has been revealed that Savla did not have time to act when the bowler next to him struck him on the head. Meanwhile, he turned, and the ball hit him in the back of his head. Savla was a businessman from Bhayandar. He was rushed to Sion Hospital after his accent but was declared dead on arrival. His funeral was on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, one of his close friends, Rohit Gangar, who was also present during the game, revealed that the ball hit him very hard and in the same position, which caused the death of Australian star Phil Hughes.

“We had two matches on Monday afternoon, one at Dadar Union and the second at Dadar Parsee Colony pitch. Savla was playing for Gala Rocks against Master Blaster and was positioned at a point when the DPC game’s batter hit a pull shot. The ball hit him (Mumbai cricketer) on the back of his head, exactly where Australia’s Phil Hughes had been hit which led to his death.”

Moreover, his other friend, Sachin Koli, also a Mumbai cricketer revealed that he had witnessed such an incident many times. Koli said that if a ball hits any part, it may lead to a fracture, but an injury to the head may lead to death.

“If you get hit on any other part of the body, you will suffer a fracture but a hit on the head can result in death. So, we make our players fielding on the plots (pitch area) wear helmets compulsorily. There was an incident where a school player got hit on the shoulder, and post that we took this decision.”
