‘Mumbai Indians ka nahi hai na isliye’ – Fans slam Rohit Sharma for picking up Suryakumar Yadav over Sanju Samson for ODIs against West Indies

The star wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson, was left out of the playing XI against West Indies in the first ODI. Notably, the 24-year-old Ishan Kishan was picked as the team’s wicketkeeper; however, Suryakumar Yadav gets a spot at No. 3 despite his previous poor ODI record. In addition, Surya was out for a duck during the ODIs against Australia at home, and despite that, skipper Rohit Sharma included him over Samson, who has been in terrific form for so long.

During the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma defended Suryakumar Yadav by saying that players need to adapt well to all formats, and he wants to give different players a chance in ODIs ahead of the World Cup.

We are going to try out different players: Rohit Sharma

“At times, we are going to try out different players, but we don’t want to compromise on our results. All cricketers around the world who are playing all formats need to adapt well. Hopefully, we can get what we want here,” Rohit Sharma said during the toss while revealing the playing XI for Team India.

Notably, it is undeniable that Suryakumar has struggled to adapt his T20I form to the 50-over format; the current series is crucial for him. The three ODIs will be SKY’s best opportunity to secure a spot in the middle order, as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are anticipated to be available for inclusion in the forthcoming Asia Cup. Once they are back in the team, it will be a tough challenge for Suryakumar to get a place in ODIs.

Fans are slamming skipper Rohit Sharma for giving the opportunity to Suryakumar over the Rajasthan Royal skipper Sanju Samson, who has been struggling to get his place in the playing XI for the past year. In addition, many people consider that Ishan Kishan was the right choice as a wicketkeeper as Team India lacks left-handers, and the top-order batter recently achieved the mark of the fastest double hundred during the third ODI against Bangladesh last year.
