The Mumbai Indians are set to host the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League’s El-Classico in 2023. The most anticipated match of the tournament is always entertaining for the fans. After having lost the first match, the five-time champions will look to get a result in their favour this time around. They will, however, need to make some changes to the team set-up ahead of the crucial clash. In this article, we will have a look at Mumbai’s probable XI for the upcoming match against CSK.

Top Order

Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav

Mumbai’s top order always picks itself, with top-tier players such as Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav. All three players, however, have looked out of touch in recent times. The openers will look for a good start in this match. Kishan scored a double-century in ODI cricket a while back and will look to ride on that confidence.

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, will look to settle himself before going big in the match. Suryakumar will play a similar role in the game, as he has recently had some poor performances, including three golden ducks against Australia in the recently concluded ODI series.

Middle Order

Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera

Mumbai Indians’ middle order is full of young blood and firepower. All four players have the potential to go big and single-handedly win the matches for both their teams. While Tilka Varma and Nehal Wadhera proved their mettle in the first match, Tim David and Cameron Green are yet to make their presence felt.

Green, the second-highest player sold in IPL auction history, will face a daunting task. He’ll have to go big with both the bat and the ball. David also has established himself as the big power hitter but hasn’t been able to live up to that. He would look to change that in this match.

Lower Order

Piyush Chawla, Jofra Archer, Arshad Khan, Jason Behrendorff

Mumbai used only three foreign players in their previous match, but Jason Behrendorff could be included in the starting XI this time. They would like their bowling unit to be more effective at home, as they only took two wickets against RCB.

The Men in Blue would rely on Jofra Archer to take wickets on a track with good bounce for fast bowlers. Piyush Chawla, a veteran leg spinner, will also play a significant role in the match against the Yellow Army.
