The five times champion Mumbai continue their poor performance in the Indian T20 League as they lost their first game to Bangalore in M Chinnaswamy stadium. In their season opener, Mumbai was called to bat first and after some early wickets, they managed to post a competitive total of 171/7 in 20 overs. However, they failed to defend the total as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added a 100+ runs partnership to thrash Mumbai.

With this humongous victory, Bangalore players celebrated a lot in the dressing room. Skipper Faf du Plessis, along with Virat Kohli, Reece Tooply, and others sang the team song and expressed their happiness after beating five-time champions. In a video shared by the franchise, players can be seen having a joyful time in the dressing room.

Notably, Bangalore is the only team to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons and the team is looking to improve its record. In their maiden run chase, nothing could be better for them to start with a bang against five-time champions Mumbai. Meanwhile, Mumbai who finished last on the points table in 2022 is looking to make a comeback.

Tilak Varma the one-man army

Earlier in the game, after winning the toss, Bangalore called on Mumbai to bat first on the flat track. Mumbai, however, failed to capitalize on the opportunity as their top order was completely miss fired. Mumbai was restricted to 48/4 in nine overs. Meanwhile, when the team needed it most young batter Tilak Varma came to rescue his team.

Tilak, along with Nehal Wadhera, added 50 runs for the fifth wicket in just 24 balls. Wadhera, in his quick innings, scored 21 runs off 13 balls. In the end, Tilak added 60 runs in the last four overs to finish on a high note. He scored 84 runs off 46 balls with the help of nine boundaries and four sixes.

Later, with a masterclass from Kohli and Du Plessis Bangalore managed to win the game in just 16.2 overs. Kohli, in his innings, scored an unbeaten 82 and Faf du Plessis scored 73. Meanwhile, fans reacted to Bangalore’s amazing celebration. A Twitter user said, “aisa lag raha jaise trophy jeet gaye ho.”
