West Indies star batter Nicholas Pooran hammered a magnificent century, which led MI New York to win the final match against the Seattle Orcas to clinch the title of the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Earlier, MI New York stand-in captain Pooran won the toss and invited the Seattle Orcas to bat first. After being put to bat first, they had an incredible start as their opener Quinton de Kock smashed 87 runs from just 52 balls, featuring nine boundaries and four sixes, to post a total of 183 runs in the given 20 overs. Notably, Trent Boult and Rashid Khan scalped three wickets each.

Later, while chasing, they didn’t have a good start as their opener, Taylor, departed for the duck. Following that, the skipper took the charge and hammered his half-century in just 16 balls. The Windies batter remains unbeaten and guides his team towards victory. The great batter scored an unbeaten 137 runs from just 55 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and 13 sixes, to lift the title of MLC 2023.

It was really special for me: Pooran

The 27-year-old MI New York batter expressed his happiness during the post-match presentation. The left-handed batter affirms that despite losing the regular skipper and some players, they performed well. The wicketkeeper batter went on to say that he believed in his skill set and had been practising for it for 5–6 years, and this win was very special for him.

“Chatting today we spoke about creating history. We lost our captain and a couple of players. At the end of the day, I am proud as everyone contributed. We knew it was a good batting wicket, we were prepared for this moment from a week ago. We had to be confident and believe in each other. I just had to execute my skills, I have been working on it since the last 5-6 years. It was really special for me. I just want to thank all the fans and supporters, they have been really amazing,” Pooran said during post match presentation.
