‘Naa hi karein to badiya hai ab’- Fans excited for possibility of Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer returning in Asia Cup 2023

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action due to a back injury since September 2022, and he was last seen in action during the T20I series against Australia before the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He did not play in the big event, but he was anticipated to make a comeback in the Sri Lanka series at the start of 2023.

Shreyas Iyer had successful surgery in London in April to recover from a reoccurring lower-back problem that plagued him following the completion of the Bangladesh tour. The right-handed batter was unable to play in the ODI series against New Zealand or the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are doing rehab at the NCA

Both Bumrah and Iyer recently had back operations, which caused them to miss the Indian Premier League(IPL) and the World Test Championship (WTC) final, and they are now recovering at the NCA. The NCA medical staff believes both players will be available for the Asia Cup in September 2023.

Bumrah hasn’t played since the home T20Is against Australia in September of last year. According to reports, the Indian pacer is mostly undergoing physiotherapy but has lately begun small bowling workloads that will progressively grow. Bumrah was India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2019 50-over World Cup, taking 18 wickets in nine matches.

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board and the medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where the India wicketkeeper is receiving rehabilitation after surviving a horrific car accident last December, have been surprised by Rishabh Pant’s quick recovery. Pant is currently increasing his lower-body and upper-body mobility exercises under the supervision of physio S Rajnikanth, who has previously worked with several India age-group teams and has also been a member of the Delhi Capitals support staff.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be held from August 31 to September 17, 2023. According to the ACC, four matches will be played in Pakistan, with the remaining nine being played in Sri Lanka.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was brought in as a backup for the WTC final, might make the squad. The left-handed batter has also contributed significantly in red-ball cricket. Sarfaraz Khan is poised to make his debut for India, perhaps replacing Cheteshwar Pujara. The selection committee may restructure the roster for the next WTC cycle, and Pujara might be one of the players to go out.
