NBA Star Ja Morant under investigation after displaying a gun in social media video

Star guard Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies left the team, creating rumours about his intentions. An image on social media that purports to show Morant brandishing a pistol is being looked at by the NBA. Morant will miss at least two games, including those against the LA Clippers and LA Lakers, according to the Grizzlies.

The NBA has started looking into the situation. “We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” asserted a statement from the league. Since the event, Morant has deleted his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

In reaction to the controversy, Morant released a statement in which he expressed regret for his behaviour and accepted “full responsibility” for it. “I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire organisation for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being,” stated Morant.

Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated: Jim Tanner

Nike, who plays with Morant to create a distinctive shoe line, issued a statement endorsing the athlete. “We appreciate Ja’s accountability and that he is taking the time to get the help he needs. We support his prioritisation of his well-said being,” said Nike.

This event follows two prior instances involving Morant that occurred this summer but did not lead to any charges. The second incident involved a 17-year-old boy who claimed that Morant left his house with a gun in his waistband and his hand on the weapon following a fight between the two during a pickup basketball game in the Grizzlies point guard’s backyard. The first incident involved a confrontation with a mall security guard in a parking lot.

“Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated,” Morant’s agent, Jim Tanner, said in a statement in response of the allegations. One of the top scorers in the NBA, Morant recently unveiled his first Nike signature shoe. He has also made the All-Star squad each of the last two seasons.
