The South African team suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Netherlands on October 17 in their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Dutch team has posted 245/8 in the given 43 overs; however, the Proteas could manage just 207 runs before getting all out. The Netherlands displayed stellar performances in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which helped them grab a spot in the marquee event. Following the great win, skipper Scott Edwards expressed his happiness while calling this the biggest win for their side.

The wicketkeeper batsman reveals that they came into this tournament with high expectations and feels that they are a very good side with great players in the squad. However, the 27-year-old cricketer accepted that the rest of the nine sides are the best as compared to the Dutch. The right-handed batsman is thrilled after getting their first win from the last three games, which will boost their side for their next matches.

“We came into this tournament with high expectations, we feel like we’re playing good cricket, we’ve got a lot of good players… but in saying that, we know that there are nine other very good sides here. So, yeah, very excited to get our first win out of the way after three games and hopefully few more to come. That’s a massive boost for us,” Scott Edwards said following the win.

South Africa is probably one of the favorites: Scott Edwards

Scott Edwards shares his wish that he wanted his side to reach the semifinals; however, he admits that for the same, he sets out to beat the top team of the ODI World Cup 2023. Moreover, the middle-order batsman was happy to win against South Africa while calling Proteas one of the favourites to win the ongoing tournament.

“We came into the tournament and, we wanted to have a chance of making the semi-finals, and if you want to do that, you’ve got to beat teams obviously. South Africa is probably one of the favorites, the way they have been playing. It’s a big win for us,” he added further.
