‘Aaj to Nagin dance banta hai’ – Fans react as Bangladesh secure historic win over New Zealand in 1st Test match

The New Zealand cricket team suffered 150 runs as a defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test match that was held at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Speaking of which, the Bangladesh side posted 310 and 338 runs, respectively, in both innings. However, the Kiwis hammered 317 runs in the first inning, and they were all out for just 181 runs in the second inning, which helped Bangladesh get the win over strong visitors on Friday.

Notably, Bangladesh is currently in the second spot in the WTC cycle of 2023-2025 and will be looking to get the winning momentum to continue in the next Test as well, slated to commence on December 6 in Dhaka. Earlier, it was Bangladesh skipper Shanto, who won the toss and invited the visitors to field first in the game.

Bangladesh had a great start in the first inning as great top-order batters Joy and Shanto helped them to a massive total against New Zealand. However, New Zealand also performed exceptionally well, as Kane Williamson went on to score the century that helped chase down the total of the first inning.

However, Bangladesh continued to be in a great form in the second inning as well, as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto hammered a hundred against visitors to post the great total in the later inning. Meanwhile, visitors were not able to continue the solid form except for one batter, Daryll Mitchell, who hammered 58 runs before getting an all-out for 181 runs.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has expressed happiness after the win, and he is hopeful to get the win in the second Test as well. “Credit goes to all the players. Taijul, Miraz, Shoriful, Nayeem – they bowled very well. Everyone enjoyed this match. We’re not thinking of the result, just following the process. For me, in the first innings we could’ve scored 50-80 more runs. Now I’m thinking of the next Test. For me, half of the job is done. Still a long way to go,” Najmul Hossain Shanto said during post-match presentation.
