ODI World Cup 2023
‘Best partnership’ – Fans react as Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra put on show as New Zealand secure 9-wicket win over England in ODI World Cup 2023
It was a terrific and magnificent start for New Zealand as they registered a comprehensive nine-wicket win against defending champions England in the opening game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 5 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahemdabad. Notably, the Black Caps, who reached the finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup, are set to clinch the title of the marquee event.
Speaking about the match, Kiwi stand-in skipper Tom Latham won the toss and invited Jos Buttler and Co. to bat first. After being sent to bat first, they posted a decent total of 282/9 in the given 50 overs. However, despite losing their opening game, the England team created a unique record in ODI World Cup history. All 11 players scored runs in double digits during the play.
Meanwhile, England had a terrible start as their openers, Jonny Bairstow and David Malan, just piled up 33 and 14 runs, respectively. Following that, star batter Joe Root scored 77 runs, which remains the highest for their side, as he struck out four boundaries and a six to boost the middle order. Following him, Harry Brook and Moeen Ali hammered 25 and 11 runs, respectively.
