‘Nice script by Jay shah and co’- Fans react as RCB beat UP Warriorz in another WPL 2024 last-ball thriller by 2 runs

WPL 2024 has started with a bang with two back-to-back last-ball finishes entertaining the fans more than ever. In the 2nd game of the WPL Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the UP Warriorz by 2 runs in a last-ball finish.

After winning the toss, UP Warriorz elected to bowl first on a ground that is favourable for chasing targets. RCB lost both the openers cheaply followed by Ellyse Perry leaving RCB reeling at 54 for 3 but Meghana and Richa Ghosh had other plans as they crafted a 71-run partnership for the 4th wicket in a brisk manner.

Meghana scored a brisk 53 off 44 balls but Richa Ghosh stole the show with her sensational knock of 62 runs off just 37 deliveries. Rajeshwari Gayakwad was the pick of the bowlers for UP and took 2 wickets for just 24 runs in her 4 overs. RCB eventually managed to get to a competitive total of 157 runs in their quota of 20 overs.

UP Warriorz faltered at the end

While chasing 157 runs, UP had a shaky start as their top 3 batters fell with just 49 runs on the board after 9 overs. But Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat’s 77-run stand took UP to a dominant position in the match.

With just 31 runs needed off 24 deliveries and two set batters on the crease, UP again faltered as they lost both their set batters- Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat on the trot leaving too much for the new batters. Eventually, it boiled down to needing 5 off 1 delivery and Ekta Bisht managed only 2, and UP eventually lost by 2 runs.

RCB lost their initial 4 matches last year but this year they started with a win at their home ground which must have boosted their confidence going into the tournament further.
