Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly feature backwards compatibility

Published on

Several leaks now suggest a March reveal for the new Nintendo Switch 2 after a partner showcase next week. Even if the reveal is not next month, there is no doubt that a new Switch device is on its way amidst multiple competitors in the market.

The latest insider news revealed that the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility with the original Switch games. Moreover, it is not limited to only one medium and will support both physical and digital games.

Since there are now many competitors in the handheld gaming market, having backwards compatibility is a huge step for Nintendo. This will allow people to switch without worrying about leaving their games stuck on the old device.

Furthermore, as per reports, the developers can enhance their Switch 1 games to take advantage of the new device. This brings us to another big change for the upcoming Switch device.

Switch 2 to feature new Nvidia chip

The upcoming device is also reportedly featuring a new custom Nvidia chip. Nvidia is currently the best option in terms of graphical enhancement in the market. After rumours of Switch 2 using DLSS started surfacing, it was pretty clear that Nvidia was going to collaborate with Nintendo.

With more powerful hardware and AI upscaling and frame generation, Nintendo fans will finally be able to play games at high settings with more frame rates. This will also let developers focus more freely on graphics without worrying about limitations.

The new chip will reportedly feature around half of the CUDA cores available on RTX 3050 which are pretty decent. In terms of performance, the final will be available after the device release. However, on paper, it does sound like a big leap with DLSS super-resolution, ray-reconstruction and frame generation.
