Nvidia reveals RTX 40 Super series graphics card at CES 2024

Nvidia have officially revealed their RTX 40 super series graphics card at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). These include the RTX 4070 Super, the RTX 4070 Ti Super, and the RTX 4080 Super.

The Super series is coming after skipping the Super Generation and starts at $599 to provide a performance bump. It is also the first time gamers are watching a “Ti” card getting “Super” tag. This is not all that surprising considering the 4080 12GB renamed 4070 Ti.

Graphics cards are the most vital component required to play modern AAA video game titles. While processors do come with integrated graphics, they are usually weak and can only play games at lower resolutions and settings.

For the last few years, Nvidia and AMD were the only major companies creating a graphics card. In 2022, however, Intel also stepped into the market with their Arc series graphics cards. While they are a bit less powerful, they are much cheaper than both companies.

Where does these new Super series cards sit?

The RTX 4070 Super is an enhanced version of the 4070, however, it is less powerful than the 4070 Ti. RTX 4070 Ti Super on the other hand is now the most powerful among the 4070 cards line-up and rivals the RTX 4080.

RTX 4080 Super also sits similarly as the RTX 4070. It is more powerful than the 4080 and since there is no RTX 4080 Ti or 4080 Ti Super, it is the most powerful card in that line-up.

Of course, the claims are only on paper by Nvidia. Benchmarks will soon reveal how much gaming performance these cards provide. Players can then decide if they should upgrade now, or wait for the 50 series cards till next year.

With the new Super series announced this year, the new generation 50 series graphics cards are expected sometime next year. RTX 4070 Super is priced at $599, 4070 Ti Super at $799 and RTX 4080 Super at $999. These cards by no means are cheap, however, the older ones are expected to see a price cut.
