“Only trophies matter for us” – Fans react to Kohli’s comment on him being a bad captain

Virat Kohli is a household name, not only in India but across the world. His fan following is massive and his social media surely tells how much fans are crazy about him. He is one of the best batters in the world and continues to train and work harder every day to maintain his form and fitness which is absolutely critical in the sport. 

Kohli became the Test captain of India in 2014 and took the nation to great heights in the longest form of the game. He has made India almost invincible at home in Tests and almost all the players around the world have felt that beating India in India is the toughest challenge in cricket.

Even though his Test cricket exploits as a captain were great, he couldn’t replicate that in World Cups in white ball cricket. Since taking over the captaincy in all three formats, India did not win any tournaments. India reached the Champions Trophy final, lost twice in the semi-finals and did not even qualify out of the group in one of the tournaments. 

What did Virat Kohli talk about on the Bangalore podcast?

While talking on the first episode of the Bangalore franchise podcast, the former skipper said that “we reached the Final of 2017 CT, Semis of 2019 WC and the Final of WTC. And I was considered as a failed captain (smiles).” 

Kohli then spoke about his bond with his former skipper and current Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He said, “What is interesting is that throughout this phase apart from Anushka, who has been the biggest source of strength for me because she has been with me throughout this whole time and she has seen me very closely as how have I felt, things that I have gone through, the kind of things that have happened…the only person who, apart from my childhood coach and family…genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni.”
