‘Pakistan were too good, India always used to lose…’ – Pakistan’s Abdul Razzaq makes shocking remarks on Team India

India and Pakistan will square off in the Asia Cup 2023, followed by the ODI World Cup 2023, and are anticipated to add another story to their historic rivalry. The arch-rivals India and Pakistan last faced off at the T20I World Cup in Australia almost a year ago, with Rohit Sharma’s Men in Blue emerging victorious, owing to Indian star batter Virat Kohli’s match-winning knock at the MCG.

In the same vein, former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq made a shocking statement concerning the Indian team ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The 43-year-old said that India avoided playing Pakistan frequently after the 1997–1998 season as an outcome of the Men in Green’s dominance on the field.

“We share mutual respect and friendship. There’s only Indian team that doesn’t play against Pakistan. From 1997-98, they didn’t play much against us because we were too good, India always used to lose,” Razzaq said.

No team is big or small, the performance on the day matters: Razzaq

The 43-year-old seamer further said that times have changed now and claimed that it was all about how a team performed on a particular day. “Now, situation has changed, we are in 2023, but we have to change our thinking. No team is big or small, the performance on the day matters,” he added further.

Meanwhile, arch-rivals India and Pakistan are slated to square off on October 15 at the world’s biggest cricket venue, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Furthermore, this would be Pakistan’s first international match in India since 2016. Notably, the Pakistan cricket team still needs to get official approval from their government before travelling to India for the mega-event later this year.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam and his squad are currently taking part in a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, which is their first assignment for the next World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle.
