For the first time in 111 years, Pele and Neymar’s boyhood club Santos FC gets relegated from Brazil Serie A

Following the loss against Fortaleza in the last round of Brazil’s Serie A competition, Pele’s former club Santos FC was relegated from the tournament for the first time in history. Notably, Santos FC lost 2-1 to Fortaleza at home, which was humiliating for their fans.

Along with Flamengo and Sao Paulo, Santos FC was the only other team to have not gotten relegated in the history of the league. However, in the ongoing season, the coastal club has been terribly out of form. In their last five games, Santos has lost all five. Moreover, most of them have been humiliating, which has not gone well with the fans.

They have dropped to the 17th position in the points table with a total of 43 points. Santos FC joined the likes of Coritiba, America Mineiro, and Goias, who were also relegated from the tournament of 20 teams. In addition, Bahia won the game against Atletico Mineirão with a huge win of 4-1 to secure the top spot in the table.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Vasco Da Gama defeated Bragantino 2-1 in their match. In addition, Santos FC WWE was almost on their way to avoiding relegation, as they were neck-to-neck against Fortaleza with a scoreline of 1-1. However, they were 1-1 against Bragantino as well.

During Pele’s era, Santos FC was at its peak

Notably, things changed when Serginho scored a goal in the 82nd minute of the match. However, the goal from Licero was like a final nail in the coffin for the dreams of the supporters of Santos, who had to see their side going down in their backyard.

Endrick will be joining Real Madrid in July next year. During Pele’s era, Santos was at its peak. Notably, in the 1950s and 1960s, the club was in its golden era. In that period, the club won six Brazilian league titles and 10 state titles. However, in 1962 and 1963, they won Copa Libertadores, South America’s equivalent of the Champions League.
