‘People are finding points to blame……’ – Ravichandran Ashwin defends Dravid and Rohit’s decision to experiment with players against West Indies
Indian star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed his skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid for experimenting with players during the ODI series against the West Indies. Notably, during the second and third ODIs, Indian star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested, which triggered a lot of criticism from fans and several former cricketers on social media.
The great all-rounder countered criticisms by highlighting that the coach and skipper have had to implement numerous changes to the squad due to some injured players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and many more.
I seriously don’t understand why this outrage: Ravichandran Ashwin
Speaking on the same subject, the 36-year-old bowler affirmed that the moment the Men in Blue lost the second ODI, people started advising which players should have been included and which were not. The great seamer also didn’t understand why this outrage came after losing the second ODI against the Shai Hope-led side.
“India lost the second ODI, and immediately the trend in social media was – why so-and-so players played and why so-and-so players did not play. I seriously don’t understand why this outrage. Rohit and Virat didn’t play in the second ODI. Even in the first match, Rohit batted lower down the order. So the debate was around whether Rohit and Virat should have played,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
The right-arm off-spinner went on to say that several people were baffled when India lost the match against the team that hasn’t qualified to play in the upcoming World Cup. The Chennai-born cricketer added that people think we play international matches just to win the World Cup.
“Some of them were perplexed at how we lost to a team that didn’t even qualify for the World Cup. We have so many injury problems. It seems like people are finding points to blame Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma just for the sake of it. Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win World Cup,” he added further.
