Deepak Chahar, one of the good Indian bowling all-rounders for India and the Chennai franchise, is set to mark his return to competitive cricket by playing in the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League. Chahar was bought by Chennai in the Indian T20 league auction last year for a whopping price of INR 14 crore.

Deepak has already started his workout in preparation for the tournament. He was battling a persistent hamstring issue that has already prevented him from playing cricket for a whole year. He did make a comeback for the Bangladesh tour, but a resurgence of his injury forced him to withdraw midway through.

The 30-year-old returned to NCA to focus more on the injury and prepare for the upcoming tournaments. Last month, Chahar returned to full health and played for Rajasthan in a Ranji Trophy game. The swing bowler for the Chennai franchise bowled 21 overs and is currently taking a break. This was a good sign for the bowler as well as the franchise, which means he can be fit for them and be lethal once again.

Similar to former Indian team captain Virat Kohli, Chahar recently went on a spiritual quest and took part in a yoga programme in Rishikesh. He decided to take an alternative path as he still had hamstring pain and was on the road to recovery. In Rishikesh, Deepak had a successful yoga week with his wife Jaya by his side.

What’s next for Deepak Chahar?

Chahar will now aim for the Indian T20 League as a platform to start a comeback attempt after being passed over for the Indian team in the lead-up to the 50-50 World Cup in India in October-November. Chahar is essential to the Chennai franchise’s team’s makeup, and with no competitive games this season, he is planning to play in the tournament again next month.

Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, Chahar will be in charge of the pace attack for the Chennai team, providing him with the ideal opportunity prior to the tours of Ireland and the West Indies. Early in March, in Chennai, the Yellow Squad will begin their pre-tournament training camp.
