Prithvi Shaw back in Mumbai squad for Ranji Trophy

Prithvi Shaw is set to return to the Mumbai team for the Ranji Trophy 2024 season. After getting approval to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) he was added to the Mumbai Ranji squad. He is going to play against Bengal in Kolkata.

After a knee injury in August 2023, Prithvi Shaw was sidelined from cricket. The injury took place while playing for Northamptonshire against Durham in the England County cricket tournament. Due to this injury, he missed out on the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy for Mumbai last year. In the last Ranji Trophy season, Shaw scored 595 runs in just six games.

In the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Prithvi Shaw underwent rehabilitation. After 6 months of gap, Prithvi Shaw is set to return for cricketing action ahead of IPL 2024. Prithvi Shaw will be travelling with the other 17- members. Prithvi Shaw will play yet another season for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. Since his debut in 2018 for India he has played 5 Tests 1 T20I and 6 ODIs till now.

Sarfaraz Khan called up for the second  Test against England

The Mumbai team is the most successful side in the Ranji Trophy. As Mumbai is ready to face Bengal, they will aim to retain the top position in the group stage. Prithvi Shaw as an opener will look to gain runs with his bat as the team eyes on playing in the quarter-final. In Elite Group B Mumbai has won three matches out of four games. They have 20 points in the table.

For the 2nd Test match against England in Vizag Sarfaraz Khan has received a call-up for India and he will not take part for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. With Shaw coming back in the squad Mumbai’s batting line-up gets strong as they are ready to face Bengal at Eden Gardens. In the meantime, the Mumbai squad is still missing Shardul Thakur. As he has not been given clearance from NCA to play cricket.
