‘What a close match’ – Fans react as Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United in 8th game of PSL 2024

The Quetta Gladiators won the eighth game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024) against Islamabad United, which took place on February 22 at Gaddafi Cricket Stadium in Lahore. Speaking about the game here, it was Quetta Gladiators skipper Rilee Rossouw who won the toss and invited Islamabad United to bat first in the game.

Notably, after being sent to bat first, Islamabad United posted 138/9 in the given 20 overs. The side didn’t have a great start as the opening batters, Colin Munro and Alex Hales, left after scoring 20 and 21 runs, respectively, in the game. However, great batter Salman Agha tried very hard as he went on to hammer 33 runs from 23 balls, featuring five runs with a solid strike rate of 144, but lost his crucial wicket.

Following him, skipper Shadab Khan departed after scoring just two runs, while wicketkeeper batter Azam Khan was out for just one run in the game. However, great middle-order batter Jordan Cox made 19 runs from 21 balls, while star all-rounder Imad Wasim was able to score just nine runs in the game. Meanwhile, it was Fahim Ashraf who hammered 20 runs from 14 balls, which helped them post a decent total of 138/9 in the given 20 overs.

However, the Quetta Gladiators also didn’t have a great start to the game, as opening batter Saud Shakeel departed for just 2 runs while great batter Khawaja Nafay made nine runs. Meanwhile, star opening batter Jason Roy hammered 37 runs from 18 balls, hitting six boundaries and one six with a solid strike rate of 206, which gave them some confidence during the chase.

Following him, stand-all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford made 29 runs from 23 balls, featuring one four and two sixes; however, Mohammad Amir took the onus as the star bowler smashed 11 runs from six balls, featuring two fours, to help his side win the crucial game.
