‘This is Great for Indian Team’s future’ – Fans react as Rahul Dravid set to continue as Team India head coach, contracts of support staff also extends
The Indian Cricket Board has given a two-year extension to head coach Rahul Dravid, along with support staff members, on November 29. Notably, earlier reports were that Dravid was unwilling to take on the role of head coach; however, the board’s secretary, Jay Shah, held talks with him to make the final decision. Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board reveals that VVS Laxman will be coaching the Under-19 World Cup team, as well as that he will continue as the head of the NCA.
Notably, Dravid was appointed head coach back in 2021 when former India head coach Ravi Shastri stepped down after Team India failed to make the playoffs in the 2021 T20 World Cup held in Dubai. Virat Kohli-led India suffered a defeat in the Super 12 stage against Pakistan and New Zealand, which knocked them out of the event. However, Dravid has guided Team India to the top rankings in all three formats.
In addition, the legendary cricketer guided Team India to the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2022 and the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, the Men in Blue reached the finals of the WTC and ODI World Cups in 2023. Rohit Sharma and Co. were the winners of the Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, the former India skipper has extended his thanks to the Indian Cricket Board, which extended his tenure as head coach.
The last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable: Rahul Dravid
“The last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable. Together, we have witnessed the highs and lows, and throughout this journey, the support and camaraderie within the group have been phenomenal. I am genuinely proud of the culture we have set in the dressing room. The skills and talent that our team possesses are phenomenal, and what we’ve stressed is following the right process and sticking to our preparations, which has had a direct impact on the overall result,” Rahul Dravid said.
“I thank the BCCI and the Office Bearers for placing their trust in me, endorsing my vision, and providing support during this period. The demands of this role necessitate considerable time away from home, and I deeply appreciate my family’s sacrifices and support. As we embrace new challenges post the World Cup, we remain committed to the pursuit of excellence,” he added further.
