Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble’s record in 2nd ODI against Australia

India’s star cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin not only made his comeback in the 50-over format in the series against Australia but also marked a great milestone during the second ODI against a strong visiting side in Indore. Notably, India’s great all-rounder, who had scalped three crucial wickets during the play, went on to shatter the all-time record held by former India cricketer Anil Kumble.

Notably, following his three wickets, the off-spinner has 144 scalps against Australia after the second ODI. However, the previous record was held by legendary cricketer Anil Kumble, who has 142 wickets to his name against Australia. Following the duo, 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev had 141 scalps against Pakistan to his name.

Despite his great performance, former Australia skipper Aaron Finch feels that India’s star will still struggle to make it to the final 15 of the ODI World Cup 2023. In addition, the former top-order batter feels the young players can learn from India’s all-rounder owing to his magnificent display in a few big games.

I don’t see Ravichandran Ashwin making that last 15: Aaron Finch

“I think he might struggle to make it to the final 15, but as somebody who has played so much cricket, I think the rest of the group that is with the Indian team for this current series against Australia, they could learn so much about big game play. Because Ashwin is somebody that stands up in big games, whether it is a Test match or a T20 game, he has done it all throughout his career,”  Aaron Finch said on Star Sports.

Moreover, the 36-year-old cricketer clarified that he does not see the RR bowler in the final 15 of the squad, and he won’t be surprised to see him as the mentor in the ODI World Cup 2023. “So I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s there at the moment as a mentor around the group, but I don’t see him making that last 15, unfortunately,” he added further.
