‘RCB ka record aaj khatre main tha’ – Fans react to Lucknow Super Giants smashing the second highest total in IPL History

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) travelled to Mohali as they faced Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 38th match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Shikhar Dhawan, the captain of PBKS, won the coin toss and decided to bowl. This was his first game back after a while as he was sidelined due to injury and Sam Curran had replaced him as interim skipper in his absence

Kyle Mayers gave Lucknow a flying start by slamming a half-century in just 20 balls, while Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, and Nicholas Pooran carried on his sterling performance. The slaughter has continued since Mayers was removed by Kagiso Rabada for 74 off 24 balls. In just 26 balls, Ayus Badoni as well as Marcus Stoinis scored a 50-run partnership. Eventually, Badoni was out on 43 from 24, but Nicholas Pooran entered the game and immediately hit three fours out of the initial three deliveries he faced.

Lucknow Super Giants sprinted beyond 200 after just 16 overs, and for a little moment, it appeared that they may break the record for the greatest Indian Premier League score ever achieved by a team. However, that effort was somewhat hampered as Marcus Stoinis collapsed on 72 off 40. Finally, Lucknow Super Giants scored 257/5 during their 20 overs after losing Nicholas Pooran in the final over scoring 45 off 19. In the tournament’s history, it ranks as the second-highest score ever.

Royal Challenger Bangalore still hold the record for the highest total in IPL history

In the 2013 season of the profitable league, they scored 263 runs during their 20 overs, which is their greatest total ever. Chris Gayle was the standout player for RCB in the game against the now-defunct Pune Warriors. Gayle, who was batting first, just destroyed the Pune bowlers, scoring an unprecedented 175 runs from just 66 balls.

During his innings, he hit 13 fours as well as 17 sixes, whereas AB de Villiers took advantage of his time in the middle by scoring 31 runs off only eight balls. Pune Warriors’ response saw them never in the running as they capitulated under the weight of the situation, managing only 133 runs in 20 overs while losing nine wickets.
