RCB star pacer reports corrupt approach to Indian Cricket Board’s Anti Corruption Unit

Published on

Mohammed Siraj, a bowler of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and team India, reported a “corrupt approach” from an unidentified man, who wanted inside information about his team after suffering a significant financial loss in an earlier IPL match, to Indian Cricket Board’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). When the India pacer received a call, he immediately informed ACU officials of the situation.

The BCCI had increased its ACU activity since S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were detained on spot-fixing charges alongside former CSK team director Gurunath Meiyappan. A specialised ACU official is assigned to each squad, who resides in the same accommodation and is there on the scene to oversee all movements. A BCCI source close to Mohammed Siraj told the Press Trust of India after agreeing to keep his name anonymous. He said, “Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited.”

The source then revealed details close to the case and spoke about who had approached Siraj for more information. He said, “It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information.” Before the tournament, players must attend a required ACU session on the dos and don’ts. There are severe penalties in effect if any player declines to disclose such a dishonest strategy. Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, was demoted in 2021 for failing to expose a fraudulent IPL strategy.

With 2.4 crore concurrent viewers, the Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) game in the current IPL 2023 broke all previous records. Notably, JioCinema’s free IPL 2023 streaming for all fans in India set a record for the most views ever. The platform has also recorded the biggest number of installed apps ever. With eight wickets under his belt, Siraj is presently the RCB’s top wicket-taker and will be aiming to increase that total.
