Reports: Jay Shah likely to leave ACC President’s and Indian Cricket Board’s seat for Apex Cricket Council chairman role

Published on

According to sources, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is in the process of deciding the venue for the next Asia Cup. Notably, the tournament is set to be held in the T20 format. Several contenders are being considered for hosting the Asia Cup, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. However, the last Asia Cup was held in a hybrid model. Pakistan and Sri Lanka jointly hosted the six-team event after India denied travel to Pakistan due to political tensions between both countries.

The confusion revolves around whether the Asia Cup tournament can be allotted to Associate Members, given that there is a clause stipulating it should be held in a Full Member Asian nation. However, it’s important to note that even though the events were hosted in the UAE, the designated organisers for those championships were India and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah currently holds the position of ACC president. The ACC president role rotates among full members every two years. However, there are rumours of Jay Shah transitioning to the role of Apex Cricket Council chairman. Notably, the Apex Cricket Council chairman position is considered an independent post. Meanwhile, Jay Shah’s potential move to the chairman role could impact the ACC and Indian Cricket Board positions.

Jay Shah’s position in the Apex Cricket Council will force him to leave his current positions

Meanwhile, elections for the Apex body chairman position are scheduled for November. The outcome of the ACC meeting may offer insights into various leadership roles in world cricket. Notably, Jay Shah is the Indian Cricket Board Secretary and Asian Cricket Council President, and his position in the Apex Cricket Council will force him to leave his current positions.

Meanwhile, the broadcast rights of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) are a central point of discussion during the meeting. The Asia Cup, as the flagship tournament, is of considerable value in world cricket, especially within the Asian cricketing community. The meeting is set to take place on January 31st in Bali for several reasons, including the participation of Jay Shah.
