India vs Australia 2023

‘Rest kar ra ha World Cup mai dekhna’ – Fans react as Mitchell Starc gets ruled out of first ODI against India

The Pat Cummins-led Australia side is all set to face India for a three-match ODI series starting on September 22 at Mohali. Notably, Australia were at their peak and at number one in the ODI ranking, but they suffered a major setback in five matches of the ODI series against South Africa, where they lost the series by 2-3 despite winning the first two ODIs.

However, the side has earlier suffered a major blow as skipper Pat Cummins and Steve Smith didn’t play the series against the Proteas owing to the injuries they sustained during the Ashes 2023. Following the same, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell also got injuries during the South Africa tour. Notably, all four players are gearing up to play the series against Rohit Sharma’s side, as this series will be the last and final preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023.

While addressing the pre-match conference, skipper Pat Cummins provided fresh updates on the injury. The right-arm pacer feels that he can play all three matches against India, which are all set to get underway in less than 24 hours. However, the 30-year-old reveals that star pacer Mitchell Starc and great all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will be missing the first ODI against India.

Mitchell Starc won’t play tomorrow: Pat Cummins

“We’ve got plenty of people at different stages. I am feeling pretty good. My wrist is all healed up… I hope to play tomorrow, hoping to play all three games… Starcy won’t play tomorrow but hopefully he’ll be available for later on the series, same for Glenn Maxwell,” Pat Cummins said in the pre-series press conference.

Moreover, the 2023 World Test Championship-winning skipper says that Starc is gearing up with his bowling practice and will join the team at the next ODIs. In addition, the great seamer also says that RCB all-rounder Maxwell will also join later. “He (Starc) has been bowling back in Sydney and all going to plan. He might bowl today or tomorrow and build up. Same with Glenn Maxwell, he has a similar time frame to Starcy,” he added further.
