Rishabh Pant breaks unique record during first Test vs Bangladesh, joins Shahid Afridi

Rishabh Pant, the left-handed batter, is one of the best batters for India when it comes to Test cricket and the batter has been proving it time and time again, although one could argue about his poor records in the ODI and the T20I format. To add more, during the first Test between India and Bangladesh on Day 1 on December 14, Wednesday, Pant became the third fastest batter to score 50 sixes in the format.

Concerning the record, Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistani allrounder, stands first in the list as he reached 50 sixes in Test cricket in just 46 innings, while India’s skipper Rohit Sharma stands second in the list after reaching the feat in 51 innings. Pant, on the other hand, reached this feat on Wednesday as he breach the 50-sixes landmark in his 54th innings.

Tim Southee, the New Zealand star, stands fourth in the list after reaching the feat in 60 innings while Andrew Flintoff, the former English allrounder, breached the feat in his 74th innings. As things stand, it remains to be seen if the southpaw would carry on with his continued stupendous run in the longest format of the game.

India bounce back on Day 1 against Bangladesh

India batted first in the first Test and the team got off to a shaky start as the likes of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli perished for cheap scores. While the Indian skipper Rahul gathered 22 runs, Gill, on the other hand, made his way back to the dressing room post scoring 20 runs. At the end of the day, it was Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer who rescued the team after Kohli rushed back to the pavilion for just 1 run.

Eventually, Pujara stood rock solid at the other end and scored a fighting 90, eventually rescuing team India from the initial hiccup. Iyer, on the other hand, kept banking on his strengths and managed to remain unbeaten at 82 at the end of Day 1. The Indian camp ended the day after gathering 278 runs on the board and losing 6 wickets along the course.
