When Mumbai Indians faced Chennai Super Kings in their second league match of the season, Rohit Sharma became the first player from the team to score 5000 runs as a Mumbai Indians batsman. Starting the game 17 runs shy of reaching the landmark, Rohit Sharma, eventually, reached it with six from Tushar Deshpande.

The Mumbai captain has played 192 games for the team, scoring 33 fifties and one century while averaging 30.23.

What milestone had Rohit Sharma achieved in their game today against Sunrisers Hyderabad?

For the first three Indian Premier League seasons, Rohit played for the Deccan Chargers. In total, Rohit has now scored over 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League with a strike rate of 129.65 and an average of 30.22. Rohit reached an even bigger milestone during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with his favourite pull shot for a four off Washington Sundar.

The 35-year-old received a start but was unable to turn it into a significant score. After hitting 28 runs off just 18 balls, he was dismissed by T Natarajan in the fifth over. This took place in Hyderabad when SRH captain Aiden Markram chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

In the IPL’s sixteenth season, David Warner, the captain of Delhi Capitals, is the only foreign player to have amassed 6,000 runs. Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore continues to sit atop the batting standings with 6844 runs, ahead of Shikhar Dhawan of the Punjab Kings (6477), David Warner of the Delhi Capitals (6109), and Rohit Sharma, who joined the elite list today.

In their 227th IPL innings, Rohit Sharma became the batsman who accomplished the feat the slowest in terms of innings. Rohit took 4616 balls to finish third with regard to the number of balls taken, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan (4738), followed by David Warner (4285) and Virat Kohli (4595). Mumbai Indians would be looking to win their third straight game on the trot as they play the Sunrisers Hyderabad today in the IPL. They won their previous two encounters against the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders in convincing fashion.
