‘Ye WC mein captaincy karne wala hai’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma opens up on India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection

Team India registered a great win over Afghanistan as they went on to defeat the visiting sides by 3-0 in the three matches of the T20I series to boost their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to start on June 1 in the West Indies and USA. However, India’s captain Rohit Sharma gave a big hint about the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Rohit Sharma accepted that they are trying too many players to finalize the squad for the event and using the same strategy they used in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. In addition, the 36-year-old cricketer revealed that some of the players who were in the squad had to be left out of the main squad.

“It becomes challenging to a large extent because you are trying out a lot of players. Like when we were playing the ODI World Cup, we tried out many boys in T20s. They perform but when the main squad is announced, some boys have to be left out. So, it is disappointing for them,” Rohit Sharma said on Jio Cinema.

However, Rohit Sharma said that they have not finalised the squad for the coming marquee event, but they have 8–10 players in mind who will surely be part of the squad. The stylish right-handed batter feels that, as a captain, he cannot keep everyone happy.

“We have still not finalised the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, but obviously in the mind you know the 8-10 players who are going to play. Then you decide on the combination after looking at the conditions of the place you will be travelling to. In the West Indies, the conditions are quite slow, so we have to pick the squad accordingly. Again I say, Rahul bhai and I have tried to maintain clarity in the team. The one thing I have learnt from captaincy is that you can’t keep everyone happy,’ Rohit Sharma added further.
