Bangladesh vs India 2022
Rohit Sharma taken to hospital after injury during second ODI against Bangladesh
Team India captain Rohit Sharma has been taken to hospital for scans after he hurt his left hand while attempting to take a catch in the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
Rohit’s injury happened in the fourth ball of the second over when Mohammad Siraj’s good length ball found the outside edge of Anamul Haque Bijoy’s bat. The ball went low to Rohit, standing at slip. He got both hands to it but the ball hit the wrong place on his thumb and bounced out.
“India Captain Rohit Sharma suffered a blow to his thumb while fielding in the 2nd ODI. The Indian Cricket Board Medical Team assessed him.
Umran Malik back in ODI squad
He has now gone for scans,” said Indian Cricket Board in a statement. The Indian skipper was in discomfort immediately. There was blood on his left palm even as Rohit walked off the field grimacing in pain.
From there on vice-captain KL Rahul has taken up the leadership duties and Rajat Patidar from Madhya Pradesh replaced Rohit in the field. India is fighting to stay alive in the three-match ODI series as they lost the first match by one wicket.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. Both teams made changes in their squad. Nasum Ahmed comes in place of Hasan Mahmud and on the other hand, Axar Patel and Umran Malik come in place of Shahbaz Ahmad and Kuldeep Sen. The debutant was left out from the second ODI because of a stiff back.
Rohit has not been able to perform since the time of the Asia Cup 2022 in UAE and his poor form continued in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. The Men in Blue skipper played four matches in the Asia Cup and was able to score only 133 runs at an average of 33.25 and at a strike rate of 151.14 whereas in the 20-20 World Cup scored only 89 runs in the five matches he played in the tournament.
