Roman Reigns retains his world title by defeating Cody Rhodes

WrestleMania 39 Night Two ended up drawing conflicting opinions after the fight between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. Reigns retained his World Titles by defeating Rhodes following a controversial finish. Solo Sikoa hit Rhodes with a Samoan Spike towards the end of the match, while the referee was distracted.

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H defended the ending at the post-match presentation claiming that the “story never ends.” Some fans and critics repeated his words and believed that this loss could be beneficial for long-term storytelling. While others criticized the booking for breaking the momentum of this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble winner altogether.

The WWE Universe was taken by storm after Reigns’ victory over Rhodes at WrestleMania 39. However, despite the criticisms, several experienced campaigners, including legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash and Konnan, appreciated the idea of Tribal Chief’s victory.

Austin termed Mania to be magnificent and was content with the story being displayed on screen for over 30 minutes. He “wouldn’t have changed a thing” as the time wasn’t right for Cody to take centre stage. However, Texas Rattlesnake still believes that he will be capturing the titles soon.

Meanwhile, Kevin Nash had a different take, as he said that it was necessary for Roman Reigns to get to the 1000-day mark as Universal Champion rather than mentioning the storyline looking into his contributions in WWE.

On the other hand, WCW veteran Konnan believes Brock Lesnar’s introduction to the storyline could be vital for developing Cody Rhodes’ redemption journey. Konnan also mentioned that, in order to get a rematch The American Nightmare needs to overcome Reigns’ toughest challenge.

‘I think Cody deserves it’ –  Ric Flair

While the 16-time world champion Ric Flair said that Cody Rhodes’ victory over Roman Reigns could have made more sense. He believes that Rhodes fulfilling his father’s dream would have made for a more compelling story

“I think Cody deserves it […] Sometimes you don’t want to take the momentum off of something that is working so well. People could be deceived by that too. I want to see (Cody win) because that’s the one chip as Cody would say that his dad never got. I would like to see him have it one time,” Flair said during an episode of “To Be The Man” podcast.
