The 17-member squad for the Asia Cup was recently announced on August 21. Notably, the roaster has a marked surprise inclusion in the squad, whereas it has some notable omissions as well. Following that, India skipper Rohit Sharma and newly appointed chief selector Ajit Agarkar carried out press conferences and discussed openly the decisions they made regarding the inclusion and omission of the players. In addition, this ‘candid’ press conference has been lauded by experts. Notably, Sanjay Manjrekar and Tom Moody are two of them.

Notably, former India cricketer turned analyst Sanjay Manjrekar says it was important to talk about star batter KL Rahul and the reason why they have kept a backup wicketkeeper. Notably, the cricket commentator heaped praises on India’s newly appointed chief selector and India skipper Rohit Sharma for expressing all the decisions taken by them in picking up the squad.

Nice articulation of all the decisions that were taken: Sanjay Manjrekar

“The answer about KL Rahul was important that a niggle has emerged along with the injury that he had recovered from and that is why they have that extra keeper. That kind of detail sharing of information is what you need. I hope they remain as candid. Nice articulation of all the decisions that were taken,” Sanjay Manjrekar said ESPNCricinfo Selection Day show.

I did enjoy the honesty and the transparency: Tom Moody

Meanwhile, former Australia cricketer Tom Moody also heaps praise on the press conference. Notably, the former batter really enjoyed the transparency and honesty, calling such communication very important. Moreover, the 57-year-old cricketer affirms that the hidden messages about the players should have come out at the right times.

“I did enjoy the honesty and the transparency that came across in that press conference. Communication is really important. At times, there can be that sort of cloak-and-dagger press conference where you have these hidden messages. Then really you walk out of a press conference no clearer than what you did when you walked into it,” Tom Moody said.
