‘His average at the moment is in the low 30s’ – Sanjay Manjrekar slams Shubman Gill after his 1st innings knock vs SA

The South African team is in the dominant position on Day 2 in the first inning of the first Test game in Centurion. Notably, Team India failed to give a big start as they crumbled to 24/3 on Day 1. However, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticizes star opening batter Shubman Gill after his poor knock in the first inning. Notably, the right-handed batter was only able to score two runs and failed to impress in the first test.

The well-renowned cricket commentator feels Shubman Gill has poor records in Test cricket as compared to the T20I format and urges him to improve his numbers in the red ball of cricket. In addition, the 58-year-old cricketer has also talked about Shubman Gill’s record in ODIs.

“Shubman Gill has to keep getting runs. If you look at his T20 performances, you know he is getting some serious competition there. Test cricket, I think, they will back him more, but the numbers have to keep coming. At the moment, Gill looks entrenched and established in the 50-over format. In the other two formats, there is work to be done, but class-wise, he is a real deal,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

And his (Shubman Gill) average at the moment is in the low 30s: Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar heaps praise on his previous Test knock, but he again focuses on Shubman Gill’s low average in Test cricket. Moreover, the cricketer-turned-analyst feels Team India is having a batting competition, and a low score can put Gill in a trolling situation.

“He is the real deal. There is a class there. Somebody who gets a 90 in his very first Test match in foreign condition against a good attack, has to have class. Now, finally, it has come to be about delivery, right? It’s about runs now. And his average at the moment is in the low 30s. He has been around for a while. The thing in India is that he has got batting competition coming through,” he added further.
