Shamar Joseph and Ireland youngster wins Player of the Month award

West Indies pacer Shamar Josephb and Ireland cricketer (Women’s) Amy Hunter have won the Player of the Month award. The former was the Hero for the Caribbean winning their first Test in Australia for the first time after 27 years. Joseph took seven wickets to help the team win the second and last Test by seven runs. Since then, the right-arm pacer has managed to bag a PSL deal for Peshawar Zalmi and an IPL deal with Lucknow Super Giants.

Meanwhile, after winning the award, the Guyana player said that he enjoyed playing for the former ODI and T20 World Cup winners in Australia. In the all-format series Down Under, Joseph played Test matches only. He added that he would like to thank his teammates and support staff who backed him during the two-match match Test series.

“I am extremely delighted to win this award. To get such an award on the world stage feels special. I totally enjoyed every moment of that experience playing for West Indies in Australia, especially the magic of the final day at the Gabba. Taking the wicket to win the match was a dream!

“It was a truly memorable moment for me, and I just want to continue to work hard and deliver more match-winning performances for the West Indies with the ball; and when required also with the bat.

“I want to say special thanks to the teammates and support staff in Australia who backed me from the start to get the job done. I will be the one receiving the award, but this is also for the team, and all the fans in the West Indies as well.”

It’s an honor to win Women’s Player of the Month: Amy Hunter

On the other hand, Ireland international Amy Hunter won the Women’s Player of the Month award. She did well with 220 runs and came at an impressive strike rate of 144.73 against Zimbabwe.

“It’s an honour to win the Women’s Player of the Month award for January. To be on a shortlist alongside two of the world’s best is something that I am immensely proud of.

“It’s been an amazing start to the year, with two convincing series wins against Zimbabwe. I am pleased to have been able to contribute to the team’s success and hope to continue to do so.”
