The Lucknow Super Giants have named rising pace sensation Shamar Joseph from the West Indies as a substitute for the injured English pacer Mark Wood in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League 2024, which is slated to take place in mid-March. Notably, the 24-year-old cricketer is all set to join the team with a contract worth Rs. 3 crore in IPL 2024.

However, the star cricketer came into the limelight as he secured seven wickets in the second innings, playing a pivotal role in the West Indies victory over Australia in the recently concluded Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane and helping his side level up the series by 1-1. However, the great seamer, who had just played two Test matches, picked up 13 wickets with a best figure of 7/68.

Meanwhile, hailing from the small Baracara in Guyana, Shamar Joseph discovered his passion for cricket relatively late in his childhood. However, the right-arm pacer made his first-class debut in February 2023 and picked up 34 wickets from just seven matches he had played so far.

Shamar Joseph was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba

Shamar Joseph achieved the zenith of his rapid ascent in January, securing a five-wicket haul in his debut Test innings against Australia in Adelaide. In addition, this remarkable feat has occurred in just his 10th senior appearance. Moreover, the Guyana-born cricketer garnered world cricketing acclaim by claiming a wicket with his inaugural delivery in international cricket, notably dismissing the veteran Australian opener Steve Smith in Test cricket.

“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) named Shamar Joseph as a replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore. The speedster was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba. He picked 7 wickets in the 2nd innings to script a historic win in Australia for West Indies. This will be Joseph’s first stint in the IPL,” IPL media advisory said.
