‘Shame on haarcb’ – Fans react as Yuzvendra Chahal opens up about his uninformed snubbing from RCB

It’s undeniable that Indian star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s exit from Royal Challengers Bangalore after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 edition was seen as one of the unexpected moves by the Indian cricket fraternity, despite the success that the bowler had enjoyed for the squad over the years.

During an interview, Chahal confessed that he felt very upset that the squad had let him go after an 8-year run; however, the most disappointing aspect was that they hadn’t even called the 32-year-old bowler to explain the reason for his departure from RCB after having him in the squad since 2014.

“I played there for 8 years. RCB basically gave me the India cap, because they gave me chance to perform. From the very first match, Virat Bhaiya showed me trust. So, it felt bad, because it almost feels family when you spend 8 years at a team. A lot of rumours came in like I asked for huge amount of money. I clarified at the time that there wasn’t anything like that. I know what I deserve,” Chahal said on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast.

The Haryana-born-cricketer further added that though RCB was willing to lay everything on the line for him during the auction, eventually the team didn’t make even one bid for him. Following that, the star bowler was purchased by the Sanju Samson-led squad for INR 6.50 crore after an auction between the Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals.

Since the 2014 edition, the leg-spinner, who has appeared for the RCB in 114 activities, has been an essential player in the team’s success. Additionally, he built a name for himself with outstanding performances at one of M. Chinnaswamy’s greatest IPL grounds for the bowlers, as smaller boundaries usually make it challenging for the bowling side to restrict the batters.

“What I felt really bad about was there was no phone call, no communication. At least have a talk. I had played 114 matches for them. In auction, they promised me that they will go all-out for me. I said, fine. When I wasn’t picked there, I was very angry. I gave them 8 years. Chinnaswamy was my favourite ground. I didn’t talk to RCB coaches. The first match I played against them, I didn’t talk to anyone,” the leg-spinner further added.
