‘Sharir se budha ho gaya but dimag to ab bhi same hai’ – Fans react as Irfan Pathan gets dishearten after seeing MS Dhoni struggle while running

In the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. However, fans were delighted to witness the glimpses of vintage MS Dhoni. CSK skipper came to bat at number 8 and scored 20 runs off 9 balls with the help of a boundary and two sixes. However, he was seen limping during the innings due to a knee injury.

Speaking about the same former India allrounder Irfan Pathan got emotional. He pointed out how Dhoni is struggling while running between the wickets and how it disheartened him. Taking on Twitter Irfan said, “Seeing Dhoni limping thru running between the wickets breaks my heart. Have seen him run like a cheetah.” Notably, Dhoni is struggling with a Knee injury as he can be seen limping during the ongoing tournament.

However, the former Indian captain has scored 96 runs in eight innings with a strike rate of 204.25. However, Dhoni has only scored 24 runs this season via singles and doubles due to a minor injury in his left knee that he has had since the beginning of the tournament. This has been a concern for the team but Dhoni has given his all for the yellow army and continuously playing in the ongoing tournament.

“Dhoni is training in a certain way”, says Stephen Fleming

After the game, CSK coach Stephen Fleming revealed that Dhoni is training in a certain way to just target the last three overs. He is looking to play cameos in the end. He said, “He’s (Dhoni) just training a certain way,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference. “Dhoni knows he’s not going to bat for a long time, and we had a lot of batting ahead. So, he has concentrated on the last three overs. [He] wasn’t as mobile between the wickets today, but he pushed pretty hard.

“So, he has concentrated on pretty strong hitting practice, and you can see the benefits of that. He is just comfortable being able to play around the ground. We know how good a hitter of the ball he is, and his access in certain areas is still very strong. So that cameo again at the end was valuable in a hard-fought 20 overs.”
