‘Shoes on the other foot’ – Herschelle Gibbs trolls Australia after David Miller scores terrific ton vs Australia in the 2nd Semi-Finals

Former South African batter Herschelle Gibbs took to Twitter to troll the Australian team on Thursday. The former opening batter tweeted his views after South Africa had scored 212 all out to give the Australian a target of 213 runs to reach the finals of the ODI World Cup.

This is the same score that the South Africans had to chase during the 1999 ODI World Cup Semi-Finals. The match ended in a tie as the Australians made the finals and broke a million South African hearts.

David Miller scored 101 runs to help his side reach 212 after the Australians had reduced their opposition to 24/4 at one stage. Temba Bavuma had earlier won the toss and chosen to bat first in the crucial 2nd semi-finals in Kolkata.

Former South African batter Herschelle Gibbs took to Twitter and wrote: “213 for the Aussies to win. Shoe’s on the other foot. You couldn’t write a better script”. This was an obvious reference to the 1999 ODI World Cup semi-finals between the two teams that ended in a tie.

David Miller earlier became the first ever South African batter to score a century in the knockout phases. The left-handed batter scored 101 runs from just 116 balls as he was the only man to take the fight to the Australians.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood had earlier destroyed the South African top order to reduce them to 24/4. Skipper Bavuma was out for zero while Quinton De Kock was out for 3. Aiden Markram scored 10 before he was out for 10 runs from 20 balls, and Rassie Van Der Dussen was out for 3 to leave the Proteas struggling.

Heinrich Klaasen scored 47 runs from 48 balls with four boundaries and 2 sixes to help pull his team out of trouble. The introduction of Travis Head saw Australia pick two wickets in successive balls. David Miller deposited the ball deep into the stands and let out a huge roar to signal his century.

Chasing 213 to win, Australia saw David Warner and Travis Head score 60 runs in the first six overs. The introduction of Aiden Markram saw Warner lose his off stump to give the South African team their first wicket of the 2nd-semi-finals.
