‘I think he’s more of a five-day player…’ – Sourav Ganguly predicts future of Sarfaraz Khan’s International career
Former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly believes that middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan’s tactics in playing are more ideal for Test cricket than the T20Is of the game. Notably, Sarfaraz Khan is one of the best debutants in India’s ongoing five-match Test series against England. The stylish right-handed batter made a mark by hitting a back-to-back fifty in the third IND vs. ENG Test in Ranchi.
Notably, Sarfaraz Khan made a lasting impression after he received his Test cap from former India captain Anil Kumble. The 26-year-old joined the elite group of cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar, Dilawar Hussain, and Shreyas Iyer, by smashing two half-centuries on his debut. With an average of 68.74 and 4056 runs amassed in 47 matches, Sarfaraz has an outstanding record in first-class cricket.
However, Sourav Ganguly believes that Sarfaraz Khan is the Test player as compared to the shortest player of the game. The former Indian Cricket Board President made the statement after his historic record in first-class games. In addition, the well-renowned cricket commentator says that Sarfaraz Khan has worked hard and improved his attitude.
That’s exactly what’s happened to Sarfaraz Khan: Sourav Ganguly
“I think he’s more of a five-day player. His game is suited for that. T20 is a different format. And the amount of runs he scored in domestic cricket, in the Ranji trophy and in first-class cricket has been phenomenal. And as they say, if you score runs, it doesn’t go to waste. And that’s exactly what’s happened to Sarfaraz,” Sourav Ganguly said on RevSportz.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan made an important mark by scoring 62 runs in the first inning of the third Test game. However, he was run out because of a misunderstanding with centurion Ravindra Jadeja. He then answered with a stunning second-inning, undefeated 68. Notably, Sarfaraz achieved the half-century mark in the first innings in just 48 deliveries, resulting in the second-fastest half-century for India in Test history. Meanwhile, India beat England 3-1 to take the lead in the Test series.
