Sourav Ganguly takes dig at India vs Pakistan clash in 2023 ODI World Cup

The arch-rivals, India and Pakistan are all set to take on each other for the most anticipated match of the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The excitement is already heading towards its peak as the date for the match comes closer.

However, in the history of the World Cup, India always had the upper hand over Pakistan in the major multi-national tournament. In ODI World, both countries have faced each other seven times and India remained victorious in all seven occasions. While in T20 World, Pakistan have finally broke India’s streak as they defeated Men In Blues for the first time in 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. India won six out of seven times in the 20-20 championship.

However, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly provided a straightforward take on the fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan ahead of the marquee event in India. Ganguly feels that the rivalry has become dull India have registered one-sided wins on multiple occasions. He further said that the India-Australia match is rather match of the World Cup.

“There is a lot of hype in this match (India vs Pakistan) but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai. India did not play well in that tournament but according to me, India vs Australia tends to be a better game in the World Cup because the quality is better,” Ganguly told on Star Sports.

“This Pakistan team is also good and the match will be good. Pakistan becomes a good team on flat wickets because their batters use those conditions well. They have fast bowlers who use the conditions. Wherever there is seam or swing, because their quality of batting has been good in the past, I can’t say what will happen going forward, India always used to march ahead. It will always be a big game. The conditions will also be important,” he further added.
