England will lock horns with Australia in the fourth Ashes Test 2023, which will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester from July 19 to 23. The visitors are currently leading the five-match Test series by 2-1. According to The Guardian’s reports, James Anderson is likely to replace injured Ollie Robinson in the playing XI for the Three Lions.

Anderson will play the all-important fourth Test match in front of his home crowd, in Lancashire. He will probably bowl from the end named in his honour for the one last time. The 40-year-old played the first two matches of the ongoing Ashes series but was not able to impress anyone. He had figures of 1/53 & 1/64 at Lord’s and figures of  1/53 & 0/56 at Edgbaston.

According to The Guardian sources, Anderson is “all but certain” to feature in the fourth Test match of the ongoing Ashes series as Robinson suffered a back spasms injury in the last match.  He was able to bowl in the first innings where he was unable to grab a wicket.

It’s a good chance for Jimmy: Ben Stokes

In his Wisden column, he declared himself 100% fit to play, but he is likely to be dropped from the team for the fourth Test. Star England bowler, Stuart Broad stated that Anderson will play a crucial role in the must-win game for their side.

“At Lord’s, we had six of the best bowlers in the world bowling cross-seam bouncers, which tells you all you need to know about what the pitch was offering from a good length,” Broad wrote in the Mail on Sunday, July 16.

“But Jimmy has been one of the world’s best bowlers for a long time and he can put those issues behind him. He’s bowled goodness knows how many overs at Old Trafford and I’m expecting a big performance from him in a high-pressure game,” the 37-year-old asserted.

“It’s a good chance for Jimmy to have a rest up and then get ready to charge in from the James Anderson End at Old Trafford next week,” England skipper Ben Stokes said.
