‘They are throwing away the opportunity…..’ – Sunil Gavaskar’s sharp attack on Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill for throwing away their wickets early against Bangladesh

Team India won their fourth ODI World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh on October 19 at MCA in Pune. Following the win, the Men in Blue currently place themselves in the number two spot in the points table of the ODI World Cup 2023. However, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar blasted Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill despite India’s win against Bangladesh.

The well-renowed cricket commentator launces a sharp attack on Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill for not making their full chance to score big against Bangladesh during the game. In addition, the former India skipper feels Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer should know how to stay patient to score big runs. The cricket analyst further attacked on Shreyas Iyer, as he wasn’t able to showcase his form despite being batting at number four in the batting friendly pitches. The legendary cricketer feels both batsmen are not taking advantage of the opportunity to score runs.

“He (Shreyas Iyer) lost his patience. He was batting on 19, threw his wicket away. Shubman Gill (was batting on) fifty (53), threw his wicket away. You need to know how to get to a hundred and it’s important for Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill is at least getting hundreds, Shreyas Iyer is not getting hundreds. He is getting his opportunities to bat at number 4 on pitches as good as these and attacks as toothless as this and he is throwing away the opportunity,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

The 73-year-old cricketer cited the example of Virat Kohli while claiming that the chase master never missed such an opportunity in a game. Moreover, the former India opening batsman says that the 34-year-old cricketer knows pretty well how to convert his runs to a century once he reaches 70-80 runs during the game.

“Kohli never does that. Kohli will seldom ever throw his wicket away. He makes you earn his wicket. And that is exactly what you need. When he got to 70-80, realizing that he has an opportunity to get to a hundred and why not? Hundreds don’t come everyday,” he added further.
