‘Tauba Tauba saara sunday kharab’ – Fans react as first T20I match between South Africa vs India washed out due to rain
India took on South Africa in the first game of the three-match T20I series on Sunday, December 10 at Kingsmead in Durban. The series is essential as it is the penultimate hurdle for India in the roadmap to T20 World Cup 2024. But in the first match, Persistent rain had ultimately dictated terms that led to the match being abandoned without a toss. After this washout, the carnival will now reach St George’s Park in Gqeberha for the second T20I.
Suryakumar Yadav has once again been given the responsibility to captain the side due to the absence of the injured Hardik Pandya. Since the injury to the all-rounder, India has faced challenges in finding a sixth bowling option, as seen in the recent five-match series against Australia. Additionally, all-rounder Shivam Dube, who was part of the last T20I series against Australia, is also not included in the upcoming series.
Looking ahead, the star batter expressed apprehension about the limited number of T20Is before the T20 World Cup 2024. India is set to play only one more series against Afghanistan in January leading up to the World Cup. Despite this, the Mumbai-born batter believes that India won’t face any issues in selecting the squad for the World Cup, as everyone is well aware of their roles and responsibilities.

India Cricket Board discusses contract extension with Rahul Dravid post-South Africa tour
The India Cricket Board (ICB) will consider extending the contract of head coach Rahul Dravid after the conclusion of India’s upcoming all-format away series in South Africa. Dravid’s initial tenure concluded at the end of the ODI World Cup 2023, but the ICB recently extended his contract until the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for June in the West Indies. ICB Secretary Jay Shah cited a lack of time to appoint an interim coach as the reason for the abrupt extension. The board will further assess the duration of Dravid’s tenure after the team returns from South Africa in January 2024.
“We did not have time. We met with them and mutually agreed that he could continue. Once they return from South Africa, we will sit with him and decide on the tenure,” ICB secretary Jay Shah was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
