India locked horns against Sri Lanka in the third ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, on January 15. On one side, the Men in Blue will look to whitewash the series, whereas, on the other side, Asian champions will be looking for a consolation win as they are 2-0 down in the three-match ODI series.

India skipper, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Team India made two changes in their squad as they brought in Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar in place of Umran Malik and Hardik Pandya respectively. Sri Lanka also made two changes in their team. They brought in Ashen Bandara for Dhananjaya de Silva and Jeffrey Vandersay came in place of Dunith Wellalage.

Indian openers Rohit and Shubman Gill built a partnership of 95 runs in only 15.2 overs before Rohit was dismissed to all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne. Before going back to the pavilion, the Mumbai franchise skipper scored 42 runs off 49 balls, which included two fours and three sixes.

Virat Kohli scores his 74th International Century of his career

After Rohit’s dismissal, the run-machine Virat Kohli came into the crease and built up a partnership of 131 runs before Gill was dismissed. He scored 116 runs off 97 balls at a strike rate of around 120 which included 14 fours and two sixes.

Virat Kohli also scored his 74th international century and 46th ODI hundred of his career. He scored 156 runs off 120 balls with a strike rate of over 108 with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Shreyas Iyer also played a small knock of 38 runs from 32 balls at a strike rate of over 118 with two fours and a six.

India finished the innings with a total of 390 runs with a loss of five wickets. If Sri Lanka have to avoid the whitewash, they will have to chase down a mammoth total of 391 runs which is not impossible but a lot difficult for the Islanders.
