Asia Cup 2023
‘There is no ill will in the dressing room’ – Babar Azam opened up on his alleged fight with Shaheen Afridi following loss in Asia Cup 2023
Pakistan Cricket Team is all set to arrive in host country India for the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Babar Azam and Co. failed to make their mark in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 after suffering a historic loss against India and a narrow loss over Sri Lanka in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023. However, they will be making plans to bounce back in the upcoming ODI World Cup, where they will be facing the Netherlands on October 6 to commence their journey.
Notably, the Pakistan team had a great start ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Green defeated the Afghanistan side 3-0 in three matches of the ODI series ahead of the Continental Cup. Following that, they once again showed their class during the group stage clash against India and Nepal, becoming the first team out of four to enter the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023.
However, the Men in Green could not continue that winning momentum and finished at the bottom of the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, the Pakistan team also slips to second place in the ODI ranking after the Men in Blue registered series win over Australia. According to sources, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam lashed out at Pakistani players for their poor performances in the Asia Cup 2023.
The entire team is like a family and there is love and respect there: Babar Azam
Notably, some sources also claim that Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi exchanged heated arguments in the dressing room. However, just a week ago, left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi posted an image with Babar Azam, calling it the family in the caption. Notably, the post shared by the 23-year-old cricketer dismisses the rumours concerning the fight in the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has recently opened up about the occurrence. The 28-year-old skipper clarified that there were no heated arguments in the team following the loss in the Asia Cup 2023. In addition, the Lahore-born cricketer believes that their team is like family, and the team has love and respect for everyone. “There is no ill will in the dressing room. There are discussions after every loss but they get twisted into something else entirely. The entire team is like a family and there is love and respect there,” Babar Azam said in a pre-departure media conference on Tuesday.
