‘They will get a chance to bat or bowl’ – Legendary cricketer opens up about Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s inclusion in Asia Cup squad

India star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made their way in the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is all set to commence on August 30. However, these surprise inclusions create a lot of debate about their form ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup, whereas it’s still a doubt whether they both should get picked up in the playing 11 or not in the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former India cricketer Kapil Dev feels Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul deserve a chance in the Asia Cup ahead of the World Cup. Notably, the 1983 World Cup winning skipper says that every player should get a chance to bat and bowl to get into the rhythm ahead of the World Cup, and the upcoming Asia Cup is a great opportunity for the players to get in form.

“Ideally every player should be tested out. The World Cup is so close but you still haven’t given the players a chance? What if they head to the World Cup and then get injured? The entire team will suffer. Here, at least they will get a chance to bat or bowl a little and get some rhythm going,” Kapil said on ABP News.

I want Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to go and express themselves: Kapil Dev

In addition, the former great all-rounder wants Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to enjoy and express themselves in the game. Moreover, the legendary cricketer also believes that if one does not give them the chance, it will be unfair for the players as well as the selectors. Furthermore, the 68-year-old cricketer feels Rohit Sharma’s side needs to have the best and the fittest team for the World Cup.

“You have a wonderful opportunity to create a team for the World Cup and the Asia Cup is a fine platform. I want these players to go and express themselves. If you do not give them a chance, it will be unfair to not just the players but also the selectors. I am aware that the World Cup is taking place in India but you need to pick the best and fittest team,” he added further.
