‘They’re a great club’ – Matthijs de Ligt sides for his former club, Juventus in midst of fans’ diss

Former Juventus player, Matthijs de Ligt has stood up for his former club despite fans’ diss. He started his football journey with Ajex’s age-group teams from 2009 to 2019. Four years back, Ligt started playing for Juventus and was part of it till last year. In mid-2022, the Dutch player shifted his base to Bayern Munich.

During his time in Turin, De Ligt scored eight goals and provided three assists across 117 appearances for Juventus, helping the side win a Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana. The initial hope was that the Dutchman would’ve been a long-term option in the Bianconeri backline but he struggled to live up to his potential in Piedmont.

Meanwhile, Ligt’s current side won against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. After the game, he spoke about his relationship with the club. He said that he still follows the team’s performance and are a great club. He added that he understands the fans dissing Juventus but he himself won’t speak ill of the club.

The player further added that he has a lot of love for his former club’s fans who are supporting their team despiet the poor times.

“I always follow them, for me they’re a great club. Things have been said that aren’t true, I understand the fans, but I’ve never spoken ill of Juventus.

“I have a lot of love for the colours of Juventus and their fans, even in this difficult moment the fans always go to the stadium, and I hope Juventus will win many more games and that they can do well both in the league and in the Europa League.”
